| Obverse description | The Portuguese national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional shield charged with five escutcheons in cross, each bearing five bezants, and surrounded by seven castles on a red bordure, all rendered in relief against a recessed inner circle. Above the shield, the Order of Christ cross flanked by two armillary sphere emblems appears in the upper field. The denomination '200 ESC' is inscribed below the shield in the lower field. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' arcs along the left and right periphery, with the date '2000' positioned to the right, all contained within a beaded border. |
