| 背面描述 | Two stylised human figures rendered in a bold, modernist artistic style emerge from angular mountain peaks rising from a striated baseline, evoking the volcanic landscape of Cape Verde; the smaller figure to the left is lower on the slope while the taller figure to the right stands upright, together symbolising the nation's growth and progress over two decades of independence. A beaded or pearl border runs horizontally across the lower field, separating the figural composition from the dates. The years '1975' and '1995' are inscribed in the exergue, marking the 20th anniversary of national independence. The legend 'INDEPENDÊNCIA NACIONAL' curves along the upper rim in incuse Latin lettering. |

Cabo Verde's 1975 independence from Portugal came after years of armed struggle led by the PAIGC, a movement that simultaneously fought for — and achieved — independence in Guinea-Bissau the year prior. The two nations briefly pursued unification before a 1980 coup in Bissau ended that ambition permanently. This 1995 issue marks the twentieth anniversary of independence, a milestone the young republic observed while navigating a difficult transition from single-party rule to multiparty democracy, a shift formalized only in 1991.
