Reverse description The reverse depicts a mounted Japanese samurai warrior in dynamic profile, aiming a matchlock firearm (espingarda) to the right while astride a galloping horse, commemorating the introduction of firearms to Japan by Portuguese traders. The Japanese kanji characters 鉄砲 (meaning 'firearm' or 'arquebus') appear prominently in the upper right field. The legend ESPINGARDA and the date range 1543·1575 are inscribed along the lower field, referencing the years associated with Portuguese contact and the spread of the matchlock in Japan. The engraver's signature A. MARINHO appears to the right of the horse, and the mint mark INCM is inscribed at lower left.
