Reverse description The reverse presents a bold, modernist composition depicting death at sea, designed by engraver António Marinho. In the upper and central field, a stylized angular figure — suggestive of a drowning or fallen sailor — is shown against a stormy sky rendered in abstract geometric forms, with rain indicated by diagonal lines. The lower portion of the field features large, dramatically sculpted ocean waves in high relief with swirling crests occupying the lower right. The legend MORTE NO MAR arcs along the upper rim, with the engraver's signature A. MARINHO to the left and the mint mark INCM at lower left.
