Singapore's Lunar series gold kilobar-format pieces occupy an odd niche — technically legal tender, practically never spent. The 2012 dragon issue landed in a year of particular commercial intensity for Singapore's gold retail market, as the dragon year reliably drives the strongest bullion and commemorative demand in the twelve-year Lunar cycle, especially among ethnic Chinese buyers in Southeast Asia.
At five troy ounces of .9999 fine gold, production runs were tightly controlled by MAS.
