| Additional information |
The "Passage for Gold" issue belongs to the Royal Canadian Mint's long-running tradition of five-nines (.99999) fine gold koulons — a purity standard the RCM first achieved in 1999 and has used as a commercial differentiator against competing sovereign mints ever since. Reaching that fifth nine requires an additional refining pass that most national mints have never bothered to pursue at scale.
Struck in 2023, this is among the final Canadian issues to carry Elizabeth II's name, given her death in September 2022 — the RCM continued issuing coins under her effigy through much of the transition year.
