Palau's early 2000s collector program leaned heavily on marine-themed issues to capitalize on the country's reputation as a diving destination, but this particular piece goes further with actual glitter inclusions embedded in the coin's surface — a gimmick that divided purists and delighted novelty collectors in equal measure. The technique was novel enough at the time to generate genuine trade press coverage.
