| Reverse description | Two stylised phoenixes rendered in intricate detail occupy the central field: a larger phoenix with dramatically spread wings and flowing tail feathers dominates the lower portion, while a smaller phoenix with elaborately scaled plumage faces it in the upper centre, the two birds oriented as if in courtship. Between them, a chrysanthemum mon — the Imperial seal of Japan — is prominently featured. Decorative floral and foliate motifs border the inner rim at either side. The legend IMPERIAL GOLDEN WEDDING arcs along the upper rim, and the commemorative dates 1959-2009 appear in the lower field, with the fineness mark .9999 to the lower right. |
