| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed, naturalistically rendered adult koala seated on a branch cradles its young joey in the centre of the field. The fur textures of both animals are rendered with exceptional relief craftsmanship, typical of Perth Mint proof coinage. The curved legend THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA arcs across the upper periphery, flanked at right by the weight and fineness designation 2 OZ. .9995 PLATINUM. The date 2003 appears at the base between two pellet stops, with the Perth Mint's P mintmark and the engraver's initials JR visible in the lower field near the branch. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Australia's platinum koala series, launched in 1987, was among the first government-backed platinum bullion programs outside the Soviet Sovam issues, positioning Perth as an early mover in a metal that investors were only beginning to treat seriously. The 2003 one-ounce issue represents the series well into its mature phase, by which point the annual design rotation — new koala imagery each year — had become a deliberate strategy to encourage date collection alongside bullion holding.
Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, adopted for Australian coinage in 1999, appears here for the fourth consecutive year on this denomination.
