Aanvullende informatie

Australia's $200 gold series had featured native fauna since 1980, but the double-wattled cassowary was a notably late addition for a bird of such zoological significance — the third-heaviest bird on earth and notoriously dangerous, responsible for documented human fatalities. The Royal Australian Mint's proof output for this type was tightly limited, as was standard for the denomination by the early 2000s, when annual $200 gold issues were pulling mintages well under 10,000 pieces.

Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II had been adopted by the RAM in 1999, making this among the mid-run issues under that obverse.
