Additional information

Australia's gold bullion program expanded aggressively in the early 1990s, with Perth Mint introducing the Nugget/Kangaroo series alongside a rotating cast of native fauna issues. The Tasmanian Devil appeared on bullion coinage during a period when the species was still decades away from the facial tumor disease that would later devastate wild populations — an irony that gives older specimens a certain documentary weight among natural history collectors.

The .917 fineness places this outside the purity bracket of most modern bullion coins, following instead the historic crown gold standard.
