Struck to commemorate the signing of the GATT Uruguay Round agreement in Marrakech in April 1994 — the negotiations that formally established the World Trade Organization. Morocco hosted the concluding ministerial conference, a deliberate diplomatic choice that gave Hassan II's government a prominent role in reshaping global trade architecture at a moment when the king was actively positioning the country as a stable, westward-facing partner.
The gold issue is considerably scarcer than its silver counterpart; Bank Al-Maghrib produced the .900 fine pieces in sharply limited numbers for presentation and collector distribution rather than general release.
