The Gambia has issued lunar-themed gold pieces for international collector markets since the early 2000s, with distribution handled almost entirely outside the country itself — these coins rarely if ever circulate domestically. The Snake year falls in a twelve-year cycle rooted in the Chinese lunisolar calendar, with 2025 marking the Year of the Wood Snake beginning January 29th.
At just over half a gram, this is among the smallest gold denominations in the Gambian lunar series.
