Obverse description Central device depicts a cowrie shell rendered in high relief within a plain field, the shell positioned diagonally with its serrated aperture facing right. The peripheral legend reads 'GHANA' at the top and 'FREEDOM AND JUSTICE' continuing around the lower arc, separated by raised bullet points. The inscription is executed in bold, incuse Latin lettering following the curved contour of the seven-sided flan.

Reverse description The central field bears the quartered shield of the Ghanaian coat of arms, depicting crossed sword and staff in the upper left quarter, a fortified castle over water in the upper right, a lion passant in the centre, a cocoa tree in the lower left, and a mine headframe in the lower right. The denomination '200' appears in large numerals above the shield, with 'CEDIS' inscribed along the lower rim, and the date '1998' flanking the shield to left and right. Four small cowrie shell devices are placed symmetrically in the field to either side of the shield.
