Bolivia's 1987 monetary reform slashed six zeroes from the peso boliviano, introducing the new boliviano at a rate of 1,000,000 to one — the endpoint of a hyperinflationary spiral that had peaked at roughly 24,000 percent annually in 1985, among the worst episodes recorded in Latin American history. The 200-boliviano note sat at the top of the initial series, a denomination that would have been unthinkable to print just years earlier.
FNMT Madrid handled the entire print run, a practical choice given Bolivia's own Casa de Moneda in Potosí lacked the security printing capacity the stabilization program demanded. Series ran through A to C, suggesting sustained demand through the early 1990s.
