Opmerkingen

Bolivia's 1986 currency reform replaced the devastated peso boliviano — which had lost virtually all value during the hyperinflationary crisis of 1984–85, when annual inflation exceeded 20,000% — with the new boliviano at a conversion rate of one million to one. This note was part of that replacement issue, making its existence a direct product of one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes in recorded history.

The Canadian Bank Note Company had a long-standing relationship with Bolivian monetary authorities by this period. The security thread on this series was a relatively early adoption for Bolivian currency, introduced partly to deter the sophisticated counterfeiting operations that had contributed to confidence collapse during the peso years.
