Bolivia's 1986 currency reform replaced the collapsed peso boliviano — which had suffered one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes in Latin American history, peaking at over 20,000% annually in 1985 — with the new boliviano at a conversion rate of one million to one. This note belongs to that relaunch series, printed by Canadian Bank Note Company as part of a rebuilding of credible monetary infrastructure under the Paz Estenssoro government's emergency stabilization program.
The Canadian Bank Note Company's involvement reflects Bolivia's limited domestic printing capacity at the time. CBN had supplied Latin American clients for decades, and their Ottawa facility handled the full production run.
