The 200 Baisa sits at an odd denomination — neither the base unit nor a round fraction of the Omani rial, which divides into 1,000 baisa. Its existence reflects a deliberate attempt to fill a gap in everyday transactional use during a period when Oman's oil revenues were driving rapid commercialization of the economy and small-value paper notes were in genuine daily demand.

Thomas De La Rue produced the series across a seven-year window, an unusually long print run for a low-denomination note in an actively developing currency system.
