| Reverse description | The left portion of the field bears a three-quarter portrait of Pope John Paul II in low relief, depicted with head slightly bowed and wearing the papal mitre and vestments with a cross-adorned morse; his facial expression conveys solemnity and devotion. To his left, the legend JAN PAWEŁ II is inscribed diagonally in the field. Occupying the right half of the reverse is a detailed depiction of a Gothic altarpiece or cathedral portal, featuring multiple carved figures of saints or apostles beneath ornate pinnacles, evoking the Veit Stoss altarpiece of Kraków. The word PRÓBA appears in small capitals near the upper rim, denoting trial-strike status. |

| Additional information |
This piece dates to the period when the Mint of Poland was beginning to develop its modern collector and bullion programs following the collapse of communist rule — the transition brought significant experimentation in proof and trial formats, and many issues from this window exist in very small, undocumented quantities. Trial strikes of this type were produced for internal approval purposes and were not released through normal distribution channels.
The papal denomination itself traces to John Paul II's 1991 visit to Poland, his fourth return to his homeland. It was the first such visit after the fall of the PZPR government.
