Beschrijving voorzijde The Polish crowned white eagle displayed, facing right, with wings spread, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. The eagle bears a shield on its breast and displays finely detailed feathering throughout. The circular legend 'RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the date '1990' is divided across the lower field to either side of the eagle's tail feathers. The denomination '200000 ZŁ' is inscribed in large characters along the lower rim, flanking the eagle's legs.

Aanvullende informatie

This piece belongs to the wave of large-format silver issues Poland produced in the final years of communist rule and the chaotic transition into the post-communist economy. The 200,000 złoty face value reflects the hyperinflationary spiral that had gripped Poland through the late 1980s — by 1990, the złoty had lost so much purchasing power that denominations once considered enormous were routine. The following year, Poland's redenomination wiped four zeros from the currency entirely.

Chopin was among the few cultural figures the communist authorities and nationalist sentiment could agree on, which made him a recurring subject for prestige issues across several decades.
