Marburg's 200,000 Mark note belongs to the most chaotic stretch of the German hyperinflation, when municipal and commercial bodies across Prussia were authorized — effectively forced — to print their own emergency currency to meet payroll and daily transactions as Reichsbank supply collapsed under the pace of price increases. By mid-1923, denominations that would have seemed absurd eighteen months earlier were routine small change.
Hessischer Verlag K. Euker was a local publishing house, not a security printer. The official seal is the only anti-counterfeiting measure — a reflection of how little counterfeiting risk mattered when a note's purchasing power could halve within days of issue.
