Fürth's municipal treasury was one of hundreds of German local authorities forced into emergency currency production during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank's supply of usable denominations simply could not keep pace with price increases that were doubling weekly. The 200,000 Mark denomination — enormous by any prewar standard — was already insufficient within weeks of issue; by mid-1923, Fürth would be printing notes in the billions.
Three signatories — Müller, Dr. Wild, and Dom — authenticated the issue, an unusually full signature panel for a municipal notgeld of this denomination, suggesting the city took some administrative care even as the currency it was producing was becoming worthless in real time.
