| Beschrijving voorzijde | At center, the crowned Polish eagle of the People's Republic — uncrowned and stylized in the socialist manner, with wings spread and head facing right — is depicted within a square frame set in relief against the flat field. The circular legend POLSKA·RZECZPOSPOLITA·LUDOWA·1974 runs along the upper periphery, with the mint mark MW appearing at lower left. The denomination 20 zł is boldly inscribed in large characters across the lower field. The engraver's initials J M-N appear in small lettering near the bottom rim. The overall design is clean and austere, consistent with the official state coinage style of the Polish People's Republic. |

Trial strikes from the Polish People's Republic mint are poorly documented in Western references, and the Fischer and Parchimowicz catalog designations here reflect the overlapping — and occasionally contradictory — Polish numismatic literature that emerged after 1989 when these pieces could be openly studied. The 1974 date places this squarely within the Gierek economic expansion, when Poland was borrowing heavily from Western creditors to fund industrialization, and new coinage types were under active development.
Nickel trials of this period were typically struck at the Warsaw Mint in very small numbers for approval purposes, with most survivors reaching collections through state auction dispersals in the 1990s.
