| Description du revers | A three-quarter-length effigy of the Polish astronomer and economist Mikołaj Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus) is depicted facing slightly left, rendered in a Renaissance-inspired artistic style. In his raised left hand he holds a sphere inscribed 'ECU', referencing his monetary treatise, while his right hand rests upon an open book bearing the inset legend 'MONETE CUDENTE RATIO' in three lines, alluding to his 1526 treatise on coinage reform. Twelve five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc around the upper field, evoking the European motif. The engraver's initial 'R' appears at lower right near the book, and the subject's name 'MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK' is inscribed along the lower rim as an exergual legend. |
