Additional information

Toruń's medieval old town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997, recognized jointly with the separate Gothic quarter across the Vistula — one of the few Polish cities to hold that designation for its surviving urban fabric rather than for a single monument. This coin belongs to NBP's long-running series commemorating Polish UNESCO sites, which has produced some of the more technically ambitious Polish collector issues of the 2000s.

Toruń is also the birthplace of Copernicus, born there in 1473.
