Issued to mark the centenary of Curie's 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry — her second, in two different sciences — this commemorative circulating note was released on the exact anniversary date of November 7, 2011. Curie remains the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two distinct scientific disciplines, and Poland has claimed her with some national tenacity given that she spent nearly her entire scientific career in France.
Krajewski's intaglio engraving gives the note a tactile depth unusual for a commemorative issue intended for general circulation rather than collector packaging.
