Poland's 1925 coinage program carried unusual political weight — the country had only regained independence in 1918 after 123 years of partition, and the choice of Bolesław I Chrobry, the first crowned King of Poland, was a deliberate act of national continuity. Trial strikes like this one were produced in multiple metals as the mint worked through composition decisions for the circulating issue, and bronze was ultimately rejected in favor of gold for the final 20 złotych type.
KM#Pn73 is among several documented pattern variants from this exercise. The survival rate for these trials is low; most were retained by the mint or distributed to government officials rather than entering any commercial channel.
