| Obverse description | The obverse features a selectively gilded reproduction of the elaborate quartered coat of arms of Sigismund III Vasa as it appeared on the original 100-ducat piece, surrounded by an ornate decorative border with scrollwork and heraldic devices. Superimposed at the lower center of the field is a smaller silver coin insert bearing the crowned Polish eagle facing left, the state emblem of the Republic of Poland, with the denomination 20 ZŁ below and the legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA flanking the eagle. The date 2017 and mint mark MW appear on the insert alongside the eagle. The outer gilt legend reads MAGNVS·DVX·LITVAN·RVSS·PRVSS·MAS·SAM·LIVON·ZC, reproducing the royal titulature of Sigismund III as it appeared on the historic prototype. The overall design is a faithful artistic homage to the famed 1621 Bydgoszcz 100-ducat coin, one of the most celebrated pieces in Polish numismatic history. |
