| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field depicts Saint Mark standing in full figure at left, nimbed and robed, holding the Gospel in his left hand while extending his right hand to present a gonfalon staff bearing a cross to the kneeling Doge Alvise Mocenigo IV, shown at right in ducal robes and corno ducale. The figures are separated by the vertical banner staff, with the abbreviated inscription DVX flanking it centrally. The circular legend ALOY·MOCENICO S·M·VENET· DVX runs along the outer border, rendered in Latin capitals. The composition follows the long-established Venetian ducal tradition of the investiture type, executed in high relief on a plain field. |
