Cojedes is one of Venezuela's least populous states, and its decision to issue locally denominated scrip in 2018 places this note squarely within the broader collapse of the bolívar's purchasing power during the hyperinflationary crisis of the late Maduro years. Several Venezuelan states and municipalities experimented with complementary currencies around this period as a stopgap against chronic cash shortages — the national currency was physically scarce even as it was economically worthless.
The "Zamoranos" denomination honors Ezequiel Zamora, the 19th-century federalist general born in Cojedes state. Whether this scrip ever achieved meaningful local circulation or remained largely symbolic is not well documented.
