Obverse description The obverse features a central circular medallion containing a stylized representation of traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting instruments — including brushes suspended vertically beneath an ornate pavilion cornice rendered in relief — flanked by bamboo motifs in the field. Below the central device, an open scroll and an ink stone with a brush rest are depicted in fine detail. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper portion of the field in Chinese characters, with the date 2023 inscribed in Arabic numerals at the base.

Reverse description The reverse presents a vibrant colour-printed reproduction of a section of the Northern Song dynasty masterpiece Qianli Jiangshan Tu (A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains) attributed to Wang Ximeng, depicted in the characteristic blue-and-green (qinglu shanshui) landscape style. Soaring mountain peaks rendered in deep cobalt and jade green hues dominate the composition, with a cascading waterfall visible amid the valley below, and distant architectural elements nestled amongst the ridges. The inscription 北宋·千里江山图 appears in the upper left field in Chinese characters, identifying the painting's dynasty and title. The denomination 20元 is inscribed in the lower right field in mixed Arabic numeral and Chinese character form.
