Obverse description Central depiction of the Temple of Heaven (Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests) in Beijing, rendered in high relief against a frosted field with a polished background. The temple is shown in three-quarter perspective with its characteristic triple-eaved circular roof and surrounding balustrade. The Chinese national inscription 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery, and the date 2008 appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description Two giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) depicted in an intimate scene: a juvenile panda cub pawing at its mother, both rendered in high relief with frosted surfaces contrasting against the polished gold field. The denomination 20元 appears in the lower right field, while the weight and fineness inscription 1/20oz Au.999 is positioned along the upper left periphery. The composition captures the natural playful interaction between the two animals with fine engraved detail.
