Issued as part of China's ongoing commemorative program for the Hong Kong handover period, this coin marks the Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island — completed in 1993 after thirteen years of construction and, at the time of its unveiling, the tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha in the world.
