The Central Bank of China's 1941 issues were produced under considerable logistical strain — by this point Japan's occupation of much of coastal China had severed access to the established European and domestic printers the Nationalist government had long relied upon. Contracting the Security Banknote Company of Philadelphia was a practical wartime solution, part of a broader American-aided effort to keep Chongqing's monetary apparatus functioning.
