| Obverse description | Central field displays the denomination in three vertically arranged kanji characters (二十圓, '20 Yen') within an ornamental wreath composed of paulownia branches bearing blossoms and leaves on the left, and oak or laurel sprigs on the right, tied at the base with a decorative ribbon bow. The imperial sixteen-petal chrysanthemum mon (菊花紋章), symbol of the Japanese imperial house, is prominently positioned at the apex above the denomination. The entire design is enclosed by a continuous beaded inner border, beyond which lies a finely milled outer rim. |

| Reverse description | The central motif features a large stylized chrysanthemum rendered as a radiating sunburst pattern set within a lobed cartouche of eight scalloped arcs, the inner disc rendered with fine parallel lines and surrounded by sharp, layered petals. Encircling the central device, the legend in kanji reads clockwise from the upper right: 年七和昭·本日大·圓十二 ('Great Japan · Year 7 of Shōwa · 20 Yen'), interspersed with small chrysanthemum rosette separators at intervals. The denomination 二十圓 appears in large kanji at the lower portion of the field. The design is framed by a fine beaded inner border and a milled outer rim consistent with the obverse. |
