Aversbeschreibung Central depiction of the Riga City Hall (Rātslaukums), rendered in fine relief with detailed architectural elements including arched windows, a prominent clock tower, and a decorative facade. The legend 'LATVIA 2014' arcs along the upper periphery, flanked on both sides by a ring of twelve five-pointed stars in the style of Euro coinage. The inscription 'ESSAI · PATTERN · PROBE' appears along the lower right rim, indicating the piece's trial or pattern status. The design features a two-tone finish with a polished proof-like dark field contrasting against the gilt architectural relief.

Reversbeschreibung A bold numeral '20' occupies the left half of the field in large raised figures with a proof-like dark background. To the right, a stylized perspective view of a cable-stayed bridge is depicted in fine engraved lines, receding diagonally toward the upper right of the coin. Below, the denomination legend 'XEROS© CEROS' is inscribed in two lines of Latin capital letters centered in the lower field. The overall design employs a stark contrast between the mirror-polished dark field and the gilt lettering and motif.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Latvia re-established its own currency, the lats, after independence in 1991, then surrendered it permanently on January 1, 2014, when the country adopted the euro — making 2014 the final year any distinctly Latvian-denominated coinage was struck for circulation. Any brass-composition piece dated that year sits at the end of a monetary system that survived Soviet occupation only in memory, then had exactly two decades of physical existence before being retired by treaty obligation.
