| 背面描述 | The reverse features a colourised image of a rat set within a circular cartouche to the right of center, rendered in naturalistic brown and cream tones as part of the Chinese Lunar New Year series commemorating the Year of the Rat. To the left, the Chinese seal-script character '子' (zi, the first of the twelve Earthly Branches, corresponding to the Rat) is inscribed within a rectangular frame, accompanied by decorative floral and foliate motifs. The date '2009' appears in the lower exergue, flanked by additional botanical ornamental elements. |

North Korea's zodiac coin program, launched in the early 2000s, was produced almost exclusively for the export collector market — hard currency the regime needed far more than the coins themselves. Domestic circulation of commemorative issues was effectively nonexistent; ordinary North Koreans used the battered won notes and aluminum coins of daily life.
KM#1202 is one of the more commonly encountered pieces from the series, minted without meaningful production constraints.
