Obverse description Central motif depicts the Taedong Gate (East Gate) of Pyongyang, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic multi-tiered traditional Korean pavilion roof set upon a stone platform, surrounded by stylized foliage at the base. The architectural composition occupies a recessed circular field against a mirror-like proof background. The Korean legend 조선민주주의인민공화국 (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) arcs around the upper periphery in Hangul script. The denomination 20 WON is inscribed along the lower rim in Latin characters.
