Obverse description Central device features the imperial Korean phoenix (bonghwang), depicted with wings spread and head turned to the left, surmounted by a royal crown, with an elaborate tail and decorative circular motifs in the lower field. The central motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Chinese characters reading 大韓 (Great Korea) and 光武六年 (6th Year of Gwang Mu) are arranged around the upper periphery outside the beaded border, with four decorative plum blossom rosettes at the cardinal positions. The Hangul denomination 이십원 (Twenty Won) appears in the lower segment between the beaded border and the toothed outer rim.
