| Reverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Louis XIV, King of France, occupying the right portion of the field, depicted wearing a long curled periwig in the Baroque court style. To the left of the effigy, a radiant sun face motif — the emblem of the Sun King — is rendered in fine detail with alternating straight and wavy rays. The legend LOUIS XIV arcs along the upper left field. The denomination 20 VATU is inscribed in large characters across the lower field, with the fineness mark Au999 appearing along the bottom within a dotted inner border. |

| Additional information |
Vanuatu has no meaningful connection to Louis XIV, making this one of the more nakedly commercial issues in the modern commemorative gold market. The Reserve Bank of Vanuatu has long licensed its minting authority to European producers — primarily Kremnica and various Austrian intermediaries — who sell legal-tender micro-gold coins to collectors with no expectation of circulation. The 0.50g format exists purely to hit a low retail price point.
