The Khmer monetary system remains poorly understood, and tin-lead pieces attributed to the empire are among the least documented coinages in Southeast Asian numismatics. Many scholars debate whether such objects functioned as currency at all, or served ritual and metrological purposes within palace and temple economies — Angkor's administrative records offer no clear resolution.
