Kazakhstan's early post-Soviet coinage was initially produced in two versions of the 20 Tenge — a magnetic steel-core type and this nickel brass piece — as the National Bank navigated supplier contracts and domestic circulation requirements simultaneously. The distinction matters to collectors because the two types are not always distinguished at point of sale, and the non-magnetic version sees less attention despite being the more technically consistent of the pair.
