The 20 tamlueng weight places this among the largest silver pieces ever struck for the Thai crown — a vessel-coin (pot duang) tradition that was already archaic by 1881, produced here almost certainly as a ceremonial or presentation piece rather than for any practical exchange. Queen Debsirindra, consort of Rama IV, had died in 1861, making this a posthumous memorial issue struck two decades after her death under her son, Chulalongkorn.
Rama V was at this moment actively modernizing the Thai monetary system along European lines, which makes a commemorative in the old bullet-coin format a deliberate act of dynastic piety rather than monetary policy.
