Thomas De La Rue has printed Samoan currency for decades, and this series reflects that continuity — the 2008 issue was part of a broader modernization push by the Central Bank that brought updated security specifications across the full range of denominations. The watermark remains the primary security feature, modest by contemporary Pacific regional standards.

Samoa shifted from the Western Samoan Tālā designation following the 2011 calendar change, when the country moved west of the International Date Line — an economic and logistical decision driven by trade alignment with Australia and New Zealand.
