| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is produced by intaglio engraving on plain paper, centred on an oval portrait vignette of King George IV in left-facing profile beneath a royal crown, flanked by a horizontal register of ornate guilloche medallions. The bank title "The Royal Bank of Scotland" is set in elaborate copperplate script across the central field, with the denomination "TWENTY SHILLINGS STERLING" in bold letterpress beneath a manuscript promise-to-pay text. Two flanking oval guilloche panels carry the words "BEARER" and "STERLING", with the place of issue "Edinburgh", a manuscript date, and two manuscript signatures appearing in the lower margin above the legend "By Order of the Court of Directors". |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse is steel-plate engraved in the Perkins manner, organised around a large concentric oval guilloche underprint at centre enclosing a smaller oval scenic vignette of two figures in a landscape with architectural ruins. Four large circular guilloche rosettes are placed in the corners within elaborate foliate and acanthus scroll surrounds, and a small oval portrait medallion appears at the top centre above the main guilloche oval. The engraver's imprint "Engraved by Perkins Villeneuve & Co." is inscribed in the lower margin. |
