Somalia's animal coin program has issued dozens of bullion types since the 2010s, but the rhodium plating on this piece is the functional detail worth noting. Rhodium — a platinum-group metal and the most expensive by weight in commercial use — is applied selectively here, creating contrast between plated and bare gold surfaces. At 0.283 g total, the gold content is fractional enough that the rhodium application represents a non-trivial portion of the finished coin's production cost.
