Somalia's Shilling series has functioned as a vehicle for the international bullion and collector market for decades — the country's nominal issuing authority bears little resemblance to any functioning monetary infrastructure on the ground. These fractional gold pieces are produced under licensing arrangements with European minting operations, primarily for sale outside Africa entirely.
