| Obverse description | Central field bears the Somali national coat of arms, depicting a shield charged with a five-pointed star, supported on either side by a leopard rampant, resting on a base of two crossed palm fronds. Somalia's elephant bullion series occupies an unusual niche: a sovereign-issued gold coin from a country that has functioned without a stable central government since 1991. The pieces are produced under licensing arrangements, with actual minting handled by overseas facilities — the Somali government's role is largely nominal, lending legal tender status to what is effectively a privately marketed product.
At 0.62 g, the coin contains approximately 1/50 troy ounce of fine gold — a denomination tier aimed squarely at entry-level bullion buyers.
