| 背面描述 | The aluminium bronze centre presents a plain draped bust of President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi in right-facing profile, depicted in a suit and tie with a naturalistic, portrait-style rendering. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower edge of the central disc. The copper-nickel outer ring bears the circumferential legend 'PRESIDENT DANIEL TOROITICH ARAP MOI' in raised Latin lettering, punctuated by a raised dot stop, encircling the portrait. |

Kenya's bimetallic coinage program expanded in the mid-1990s as the Central Bank moved higher-denomination values from notes into coins — a cost-reduction measure driven partly by the short lifespan of low-quality paper currency in equatorial circulation conditions. The 20 shilling coin replaced a banknote that was lasting under a year in active use.
The 1998 date places this piece during Daniel arap Moi's long presidency, a period when Kenya was under significant IMF pressure following suspended aid over corruption concerns in 1997.
