Duncan Ndegwa served as the Central Bank of Kenya's first governor, appointed when the bank opened in 1966, and his signature anchors every variety in this series. The multiple signature combinations in Pick 13 reflect staff changes at the deputy governor level across the print run — Iganaga and later L. Mutenge cycling through as Ndegwa's tenure extended well into the late 1970s.
Bradbury Wilkinson printed Kenyan notes throughout this period from their New Malden works, a long-standing relationship that gave early CBK issues a consistency of production quality rare for newly independent central banks at the time.
